The center of the old town of Novigrad – Cittanova lies on a limestone peninsula which was once an island. Medieval walls topped with restored crenellated towers run across the port and also the historic core is replete with 15th to 18th-century residences and palaces. A sightseeing highlight of Novigrad is the baroque Rigo Palace with a exquisitly sculpted facade. The top of the island is dedicated to a park shaded with parasol pines and there’s a lungomare – seaside promenade – that runs along the coast to the Novigrad marina, the most sheltered in the Adriatic sea.
